Your Online Privacy Is Important to Us

Christian Record Services (CRS) recognizes the importance of protecting information collected from users of its web site. It is CRS policy to use the information for internal purposes only. Security measures are maintained to keep this information private. The only exception is "Postings" which is discussed near the end of this document. It should be noted that the user’s browser does automatically inform CRS about the type of computer and operating system being used.

Users can visit the CRS web site without revealing information about themselves. CRS registration forms require users to give us contact information that may include name, e-mail address, format preference (HTML vs. plain text), physical address, and interests. CRS does not request or store sensitive information, such as social security numbers, from users.

If users indicate that they do not wish to have their information used as a basis for further contact, CRS will respect those wishes. CRS does keep track of the domains from which people visit. This data is analyzed for trends and statistics in aggregate, and then discarded.

CRS cares about the safety and security of credit card transactions.  Any sensitive information provided to CRS, such as credit card information, is transmitted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption.  (Look for the "s" following http. It indicates a secure site.)  CRS extends that protection by maintaining the information in encrypted form and restricting access to a limited number of qualified employees.

CRS does not rent or sell personally identifiable information (such as names and addresses) to third parties.  Individuals who provide personally identifiable information and do not wish it to be shared in any way outside of our organization may opt out by contacting giftrecords@christianrecord.org.  To prevent unauthorized access, to maintain data accuracy, and to ensure the appropriate use of information, CRS has put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information collected.

If users elect to use the Refer-a-Friend service for informing a friend about the CRS web site, they will be asked for the friend's name and e-mail address. CRS will automatically send the friend a one-time e-mail message inviting them to visit a particular web page in the web site. CRS stores this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time e-mail message, and then deletes it.

Use of Cookies

Certain sections of the CRS web site may use "cookies" to store user information. A cookie is a small string of text that a web site can send to your browser. A cookie cannot retrieve data from a user’s hard drive, pass on computer viruses, or capture an e-mail address. Currently, web sites use cookies to enhance the user's visit. Cookies can securely store a user's ID and password, personalize home pages, identify which parts of a site have been visited, or keep track of selections in a "shopping cart." Cookies can help CRS understand which parts of our web sites are the most popular, where users are going, and how long they spend there. CRS may use cookies to study traffic patterns on this web site so that it can be improved. Cookies may also be used for site administration and security.

Cookies were originally designed to help a web site distinguish a user's browser as a previous visitor and thus save and remember preferences that may have been set while the user was browsing the site. If a user is just browsing CRS's web site, a cookie identifies only the web browser being used. If a user registers on a CRS web site (with a user ID and password), CRS may use cookies so that personalized information based on the user’s stated preferences may be provided. Users may set their web browsers to inform them when a cookie is being placed—this way, the user has the opportunity to decide whether or not to accept the cookie. If users are just browsing the CRS web site and are not registered, they do not have to accept a cookie and they can still continue browsing the site. However, if they are visiting a site where they will be accessing a confidential account, they must accept that site's cookies, which are essential for site administration and security.

Children's Guidelines

Christian Record Services encourages children to learn more about the organization.  However, CRS urges that this be done only with their parents’ knowledge and supervision.  Christian Record Services complies fully with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA http://www.ftc.gov/ogc/coppa1.htm).

None of the CRS web sites covered by this policy knowingly collect identifiable personal information from children under age 13. If we discover that a person under age 13 has provided personally identifiable information, CRS will delete that information from its systems. CRS is unable to reply to information requests from children under the age of 13, if so identified. A parent or guardian must initiate requests for information from children under the age of 13 on their behalf.

Privacy Policy Updates

Christian Record Services may occasionally update this policy so that it evolves with the rapidly changing technologies employed on the Internet. Revisions will be posted to this web page. A revised Privacy Policy will apply only to data collected subsequent to its effective date.
